Thank you, all, for answering "life's most persistent questions" such as "Will the newest version of Windows be friendly with BYEOS and other astro software?"  I'm an old-timer who is reluctant to make any changes while the former ways still work.

I found a thread on a French forum listing several software that people have already tested and confirmed working.

www.webastro.net/forum/showthread.php?t=130483

The post is in French but anyone should be able to eyeball the list of software confirmed working if they scroll.

Here is the list from the original post.

- Aladin
- Artémis Capture
- ASCOM 6.1SP1 et V6
- Astroart
- AstroGenerator 2.0
- BackyardEOS, APTTools, AstroJan Tools
- Canon Eos Utility
- Cartes du Ciel 3.10
- Coelix
- DSS
- DxO OpticPro 10
- Firecapture
- Fitsworks
- FocusMax v4
- Genika Astro x64
- Iris
- MaximDl v5
- Maxpilote suite
- NexRemote
- Photoshop CS5 et suivants (et sans doute précédents)
- PixInsight

Jim,

A better question is...Will Windows 10 be compatible with Windows 7 and 8 applications? The answer is yes, with near 100% security.  Microsoft would be skewered by the user community if this were not so.

Not so certain is whether Windows will supply drivers and recognize all the cameras that it does today.  This is not a BYE issue!

Rick

the reason I thought it was not supported is because it is not being manufactured. which means (to me) parts will be scarce if anything breaks,

and repairs will be hard to get. and support from Canon will start to become hard to get.

Even if it is no longer sold it is still -supported- by the SDK in that if it can connect today it will continue to connect tomorrow with that same SDK version.

In 2011 or 2012, Canon stopped supporting DIGIC 2 camera in its SDK... so I packaged both old and new SDK's in BYE, this is why you have the option to choose DIGIC 2 or DIGIC 3/4/5/6 in BYE when you connect your camera.  If I have to add a 3rd one in the future I will :)

I have a 'trial' version of Windows 10 on my desktop and so far everytime I have tried BYE it has had no problems, though I have not used it for an overnight session (I use a laptop for this). All the desk tests with Windows 10 with nearly all my recent software (that produced to work on Windows 7/8) looks to be OK.

Windows 10 appears to be stable I have had no issues with it.

I am not using the new browser as it would not allow search engines other than bing to be the default. It is due to change (if it hasn't already) with an update to allow any search engine to be set as default.
