It looks like that's the case.  Are there any plans in the works for other Plate Solvers?

Yes, I added the RA/DEC in the capture plan in 3.1.18, this was step #1.

I've started working on the building blocks for plate solving within BYE/BYN.  It's nowhere close to working, there's not even a UI yet.  I'm hoping, fingers crossed, to have something late this calendar year.

Regards,

Wouldn't it be possible to integrate AllSkyPlateSolver into BYE?

Giovanni

I'm working on plate solving right now.  I think I should be able to upload a pre-release in about 1 to 2 weeks.  I have it working with ASTAP only for now and I'm doing final round of testing with the simulators. It's cloudy here right now so I can't test it outside.

Does AllSkyPlateSolver support dslr CR2/CR3/NEF files or only jpg and fits?

Regards,

I'd guess that this question is rhetorical:  ASPS Docs list JPG and FITS, and internally converts JPG to FITS before feeding into the embedded Astrometry.net engine.  For BYE/BYN purposes, it's good that all DSLRs embed a JPG Image within the CR2/NEF RAW Files.

This is Great News!!  I'm sure that you've been able to Plate Solve using archived Images from several of the DSLRs you've previously Tested for BYE/BYN.

Yes, Platesolving is available now in BYE and BYN with ASTAP as the solving engine. It requires either a Trial license or a Premium license. It was first released in late 2020 in BYE version 3.2.0.

The following post in the How To forum contains a PDF file written by Michael Covington that describes how to use ASTAP with BYE or BYN for Platesolving.

You can get the coordinates of where the telescope thinks it is pointing from Cartes du Ciel, Telescopius, or directly from the telescope via ASCOM. I believe that these coordinates are passed to ASTAP which uses them as a hint to speed up the solving process. Obviously in order for this to work you also need to have at least the ASCOM Platform and a driver for your telescope installed. Also, if you want to use CdC or Telescopius they need to be installed.
