Bahtinov mask focusing

First I want to say how much I love using BYEOS. BYEOS has the best user interface in the business. However, I discovered recently that when using this method, you don't need an actual physical mask. Does that make the mask redundant? Thanks for all advice.

BYE offers multiple Focus Metrics: FWHM, HFD, StdDev, and Bahtinov Mask.

 

Each of these has it's uses, but for many the Baht Mask is the Easiest-to-Use under all sorts of Conditions - including Poor Seeing that can make the other Numbers nearly useless.

 

The Good Thing about having Multiple Tools - you can choose the one(s) that fit your needs best...

The Bahtinov mask focusing method in BYE expects that a physical mask is being used. You may find it unreliable otherwise.

Yes, if you choose the Bahtinov mask method you need a mask.
