Connection issues are almost always related to cabling and other hardware.  Did you disconnect and reconnect the USB cable in between when you re-installed 3.1.3?

That said, 3.1.4 does use a newer version of the Canon SDK to support new cameras.  If if you continue to see a problem with 3.1.4 it may be worthwhile to temporarily replace the EDSDK.dll on 3.1.4 with the version of the DLL that comes with 3.1.3 to confirm an issue with the Canon SDK and your camera.

I went from 3.1.3 to 3.1.5(EOS) and have the same issue (Canon 100d) connects straight away takes a picture , downloads ok that after 30 secs or so disconnects. Reconnects ok and repeats the problem. 2 PC's tried with 3.1.5 both do exactly the same. Will try again going back to 3.1.3 using same cable and try another cable with 3.1.5. Great work by the way.

Just had an email fellow ELAS member who is having the same problem - he went back to 3.1.3 and all ok.

Make sure you select Canon215 drivers in 3.1.5 with the 100D.

3.1.3 versus 3.1.5 does not matter for camera disconnect.  Camera disconnect is a USB issue, been there done that too sadly :(

How long is your USB cable?  Hub?  Any other devices connected to the hub?

Regards,

Regards,

didn't choose canon 215 but have tested since using same drivers(not 215) and it worked 10 times todate - only difference not on scope and therefore not after moving scope which may have pulled the usb cable a bit. no hubs involved and on 1 pc only 1 dedicated ,to bye eos,usb port. will do some more testing but as I say my colleague had the same problem and went back to 3.1.3 and the problem went away. Could be coincidence thats for the help. - update cable problem or canon port is at fault if i wiggle it ,even gently, program(and sd for canon) disconnects.

Amazon sells numerous short "90-degree" USB Cables (with various Connectors and in both Left-hand and Right-hand designs) with Female USB-A Connector on the other end.

I use these on my DSLRs with that short USB Cable tied firmly to the Metal Camera Strap Loop directly above the Camera Connections Plate.  Then I connect a standard USB-A Extension Cable (length to suit) to connect to the Powered-Hub or Laptop.

This configuration works to reduce Most ALL Stress on the rather weak Camera USB Port.

At your own risk:

I have found that if I slightly bend the bottom (narrower) part of the plug out a little with needle know pliers the fit is a little more snug.

I'm talking about the sheet metal that forms the outside of the plug.

Also there are strain reliefs that tie the cable to the camera strap connection. See http://shop.jerkstopper.com/Photo-Video_c2.htm
