In the past a couple of things are required for this to occur.  The SDK supporting the camera, EOS R7, the camera to test the changes made and time.  As Astroman133 says the SDK has been released.  Getting a loaner camera to test the software often takes time.

If you want to use your R7 to take some Astro photographs you can use EOS Utility for test or as your software until BYE is updated to allow the R& to be used.

I used EOS Utility many years ago until I found BYE and purchased it.

If you haven't already used EOS Utility, I hope this helps.

I have a R7 too but haven't gotten the telescope out to play with it.

Ron

I tried to post this before so it may show up again.

I just compiled BackyardEOS with the latest Canon SDK.

Download link:

<<< link delete - please download the latest release from the download section >>>

Download, Install, and try to connect your camera. It will not connect, but you should be getting a message similar to the following in the log window.

18:50:06  DEVICEINFO DESCRIPTION IS Canon EOS ###
18:50:06  DEVICEINFO NUMBER IS 3470492101.
18:50:06  YOUR *REAL* MODEL NUMBER IS 4294967294(FFFFFFFE)

Send my that info, I need it to register your camera model in BYE. I will then re-compile and send you a new download link to try out.

7 minutes ago, Ron Hillstromb said:

I have tried to download the file but Microsoft refuses to download because it says there is a virus.  I have disabled the firewall but still MS won't complete the download even after I say to go ahead.

You'll need to temporarily Disable the "Virus and Threat Prevention".  In the past 10+ Years, there has never been an actual Virus in any BYE/BYN Product.  But, most Virus Scanners get lazy and use a simple "Reputation Metric" which simply means that until Microsoft sees this build of BYE on a number of PCs it will simply mark it as "Suspect" and Block It without even Scanning It (because Scanning It would take a few perceivable seconds which would open Microsoft to critiques that it "Isn't As Fast As...").  All the Virus Scanners do this Lazy Shortcut by Default...

If you want to be Extra Cautious, after Downloading you can Right-Click and Scan it Manually.

Hi Ron, please accept my apologies for dropping the ball on this one.

Please try this new download, I have just updated the Canon SDK to the latest as of this morning. Hoping this will connect with the R7 and R6Mk2

I will see what I can find on liveview here shortly.

We are in the final preparations for taking a trip to the Galapagos next week.  I am kind of burning the candle at both ends as well as distractions of new toys.

I will try to get access to the R6 MK II .  My wife is very protective of it before this trip.

Ron

OK live view works like i would expect.  i didn't wring it out but the +5 zoom works on both the R6MKII and R7.  The Frame and Focus  showed the indicators as well as the Drift Alignment frame.

Planetary works fine with the live view shining.

I got "Unable to set Image Quality current setting assumed." immediately after connecting.

Hopefully you can get some with the camera and time to stress the setup.

Any other questions just ask.  I will try to check in mornings, noon and evening. until Monday.

You're welcome.

Hope to see a new RC out before we leave or when we get back.

For your information and anyone who reads this and doesn't know, the R7 and R6MkII can take pictures with the Canon 100-400mm lens with the EF 2X attached through the RF to EF adapter to the R7.  Which gives me a 400 -800 mm lens plus the 1.6 multiplier with the R7.

  Have a great weekend.
