Can I run two Canon 40D simultaneous on two scopes simply?

Matthew

Question

Hi Guys,

At tresent I use two instances of BYE to control a Canon 40D mated to a 9.25 SCT and a Canon 400D mated to a WO 110 FLT.

A friend is selling their modded 40D and I am wondering can I run two instances of the same camera driver without endless confusion?

If I have the two camera running simultaneous do I just switch on say the SCT one first, link to it, then switch on the WO one and link to that?

Has this functionality been tested and known to work - or am I in for endless troubles?

Hope for a speed response as I would like to make a bid on the camera before its gone!

Thanks,

   Matthew

Many thanks,

I have said yes to the guy selling me the second Canon 40D.

The methodology of turn the first one one - connect it, turn the second one on - connect it - sounds okay to you?

* * *

And if I wish to get greedy - can I run 3 Canon Cameras simultaneous as I have three scopes - so my two 40Ds and one 400D - using the same trick stated above - or will BYE only support a maximum of two cameras at a time?

Many thanks,

Actually there are no limits, but the installer only creates 2 executable and 2 config file. You will need to create camera3.exe (copy form camera2.exe) and the config file as well.  Then you'll need to edit the camera3.config file and make it point to camera3.user.config as per camera2.config points to camera2.user.config.

If you use 2 separate computers however you need to purchase 1 license for each computer running BYE simultaneously.

Attempting to use two (or more) DSLRs on a Single Mount encounters a rather Significant Challenge if you intend on using Dithering for that Mount and those Cameras.

Simply put, BYE doesn't (yet) have the ability to Synchronize the Shutters of Multiple DSLRs; and without that functionality the Cameras will quickly end up attempting to perform Exposures while BYE and PHD2 and the Mount are busy moving as part of a Dither.
