Second license for BYE?

Cryhav0c

Question

I just piggybacked an APO to my 10" LX600 for AP.  I already run two computers and may be looking at getting an additional full spectrum mod'd T3i so I can run dual cameras.  Can you get a second license so I can run BYE on both laptops?  Thanks

You're aware you can run two cameras from two instances of BYEOS on a single computer, right?

I do that with two t3i's

You said you're already running two computers so that's fine, just wanted to make sure you knew of the single computer option.

Actually, this is correct for the Case of setting up 2x Independent Imaging Rigs - DSLRs, Scopes, Guiders, AND Mounts.

But, as the OP indicates that he is intending a Piggy-back configuration, he WILL have a Problem.  BYE Cannot perform any form of Synchronization between the two Instances, so the OP will be Unable to use Dither for Either DSLR.

This is an issue which is subject to a Feature Request, but Guylain confirms there is currently no solution.  And this I can confirm from copious practice and tests...

Anyone have a link to recommended dithering proceedures?  Being new to AP, (only been doing for 2 years), dithering is something I've been working on but have yet to perfect.  My images are "ok" but I'm always trying to do better.

I failed to mention that I was using Meade's Starlock for guiding.  I've read and am currently practicing the info indicated and it's been very helpful.  I'm thinking I'll need to get a guider and setup PHD to address this properly.  I hadn't seen the one about 2 cameras.

But that's exactly how I use it. I just make sure the piggy back exposures are "inside" the ones on the big scope, controlling the dither, by triggering them manually.

I've found that it is Very Difficult to find a pair of Exposure Times that will retain their synchronization through more than a few Exposures - the variable timings of the Dither and Settle actions get things off-track quite quickly.  Yes, one can set the Exposure Plan such that there is a sizeable Pause in which you then perform the "Manual Dither" via the PHD2 Command Window.  (In fact, I may have been the one who pointed out that possibility when I convinced the OpenPHD Dev Team to add the Manual Dither Control...)

There is also the split serial cable solution to have them in synch to use dithering.  Not elegant, but it does work.

Yes, such a Serial Cable will work - one needs to remember to set the "Cable Support" setting to the proper DSUSB or Serial selection AND then to restore it to CameraUSB for standard use.

The Meade Starlock system does it's own version of AutoGuiding.  As far as I can find (Meade's website seems to be Down - again), there is Still no exposed SDK that would allow other Software (PHD or BYE) to coordinate that Starlock Guiding with any Dither operation.

One might need to confirm that StarLock can be Disabled after the Alignment has been performed, so that a PHD2-based AutoGuider can be utilized.

You can turn Starlock off. Will need to investigate possibilities.  Already got dual BYE setup.  Just put an additional monitor on laptop and all worked fine.  Now it just needs to stop raining for a few days.  No end in sight tho.  I use this time to study and upgrade.
