Save only to SD

jeffc111

Question

Sorry, I'm completely new to this software, and my searches didn't turn up anything related to these:

Is it not possible to save photos only to SD when performing a time lapse?  The download time is too long for my subject.

Also, it seems like the interval is just a delay between download completion and the next shot - i.e., it's not necessarily consistent if the download time varies based on image size.

Thanks

You need to select "Save To = Camera" in the image capture plan center.

But, it only takes a few seconds do download the image before the next image is take.  The processing it done in a background thread and is done simultaneously while the next picture is taken and make take 20 to 30 seconds to show up... but it did not prevent the next image to be taken without a few seconds of the download.

I believe I tried that, and it appeared it was downloading from the camera anyway.  The picture-taking behavior I was observing was not as you describe, but, it seems likely I didn't have something configured, or perhaps misunderstood one of the settings.  I will review it this evening and try again.

The download time I was seeing is on the order of 10 or 15 seconds...

I'm using a 60d, fwiw.

Thanks!

Is your camera plugged in a USB port 1.1 by any chance?  I have a 60D too and it takes about 2 seconds to download a raw .cr2 image.

What version of BackyardEOS are you using?

I'm using the latest version - 3.1.2 - Trial.

SaveTo Camera is definitely not working.  The photos are downloaded, they are not saved to the SD card.

I changed from RAW + Large/Fine to just RAW, and that sped it up.  It wasn't taking as long as I thought - maybe 6 seconds before, probably 5 seconds without the large/fine.  This seems to be much faster than USB 1.1, so I don't think that's the issue.

The software is definitely not taking a picture every second.  It seems to wait 1 second after the download is complete.

Please let me know if you see something here I'm missing.

I've been able to confirm this issue on my configuration, too...  It appears to be an issue with support for the 60D, as my 550D works as expected.

I've tested using BYE v3.1.2 Premium and a -bugfix version provided by Guylain for a different test.

I've tested using both my Imaging Laptop and my Desktop PC.

I've tested using my 60D (error) and my 550D (success).

I've tested using the SD Cards swapped between successful 550D and failed 60D - issue remains 60D.

The issue is associated with the following logfile entry:

2015-02-11 00:30:13,246 [CameraTakePictureOnMessageRecieved] INFO  - Unable to set SaveTo=CARD, current setting is assumed!

I've posted logfiles and additional testing details to Guylain via email over the past few days (but no response - my email may be triggering his Spam Folder)...

This issue went unnoticed by me during general Field Usage, as I don't find any need for SaveTo: Camera - even for Flats and Bias (these are taken at Camera Shutter Button due to "Rush to complete before other Imagers object to my Lightbox").

Using v3.1.5, I've yet again confirmed this 60D-related Issue with SaveTo=Card NOT WORKING.
