BYE Freezes using with Cannon Rebel EOS T5

dyemul

Question

I am new to astro photography. I have downloaded the trial version. Trying to make it work with my Cannon EOS Rebel T05. I cannot get this to work for more than 5 minutes.

It keeps freezing. I have tried two different cables, reset the camera, restarted the PC several time. It still freezes. My computer is new and definitely not slow. Log file of the latest run is attached.
Please help.

If it works for x minutes then stops working this is probably due to something going to sleep.

Is you camera set to auto turn off after x minutes?

Is your laptop set to sleep after x minutes

Is your harddrive set to sleep after x minutes?

Is your usb port set to sleep after x minutes?

I saw several "out of memory" errors in your log file. These are not normal and could indicate an issue. There was one of these errors just before the camera shut down.

The last "take picture" command appears unusual.

2020-08-09 19:09:20,477 [8] DEBUG - TAKE PICTURE ::: Shutter(MANUAL) Cable(CameraUSB) Av(f/4.5) Duration(0.0) Iso(1600) Quality(IMAGE_RAW) Mirror(0) SaveTo(PC)

It is a 0.0 second manual exposure. That does not make sense.

I also saw that, in some cases, you were trying to save to the camera's memory card. If this is important you need to upgrade to BYE 3.2.0 as this capability is better supported in the latest version. There are also numerous additional fixes and features in the latest release.

Downloaded the 3.2.0 version. The camera was set to turn off after 30 seconds of inactivity.

I disabled this feature but still had the same result.

Laptop is set never to sleep. Including hard drive and USB port. There are instances when the software freezes after one image. Less than 30 seconds.

You get a timeout.  The camera is not providing an image after the exposure and BYE issues an image download timeout....

You are using a lens, is it set to auto focus?  If yes you need to disable this.  Also, try without a lens just to see if it works.

Here is a log file for the latest attempt. Freezes instantly, unable to take even one picture.

Another observation. I tried to shut down the camera to restart and see this message. Been there last 5 minutes.

I have removed the SD card from camera. Only saving to PC.

This is a side effect of the camera not providing the image for download (original timeout error).

The only way to reset the camera from this is to remove the battery and try again.   But try without a lens, I want to see if the lens is causing this.

I was able to reset the camera by removing the battery. I had done this earlier today as well.

I was using Lens with AF. I disable AF, same result. Also tried without the lens. Still had the same result.

I'm running out of ideas, the camera is not providing the image.

You get an internal camera error.

Try with only raw image, you current have it set for both raw and jpg.  You can change this in the app steering window.

Thanks. I am not sure what is going on either. I have tried to save just RAW images earlier today. Still had the same problem.

LOL, and my trial license just expired. Not sure where to go from here. Appreciate your help.

Trial expired?  It's only 1 week old.... your key shows as active on the server.  Can you confirm you get an expired message?

Well, the .CR2 image provided by the camera is invalid according to the log file and BYE use strictly the Canon SDK to load .cr2 image.  To confirm this, try JPG only report your findings.

Can you view the JPG in Windows?

Same here. I have attached the latest log file. jpg image that I can view on windows.

Interesting part this time was that I took two pictures. Both showed up the pictures folder. I was encouraged, no picture in queue at this time, went to try again and it was frozen. Which has not happened before (i think), most of the time it has been during download of image. Saving jpg only.

Here is a weird request.  Download and try BYE 3.1.16.

Ok here is what I got.

Trial 1: Rev 3.1.16. Raw Image format. I took about 10 pictures before it froze up. But an interesting thing I observed is that the preview window had loaded only 8 pictures. Then when I went to take the 11th picture. Everything froze up. I have included log file and preview window.

Trail 2: Rev 3.1.16. JPG only image format. This time was was able to take considerably more number of pictures. Roughly 30. Seemed to go going very well. Longest it has ever worked. Then after taking a bunch of pictures I switched to the Frame & Focus mode and it froze up again. Turned of camera, restarted, tried to connect again and it was still frozen. But again interestingly, the preview window had loaded only 10 pictures and they were not the latest 10 I had taken. I am not sure if this has anything to do with anything. I have included log files for both runs.
