Canon 300d connection question

Dwightfdavisjr@gmail.com

Question

I was really looking forward to trying out this program but it doesn’t recognize my camera even though the computer and photo programs do. I get a message that I’ll have to use a 32 bit version of windows because the camera is so old I guess. Microsoft says 64 bit will run 32 bit programs but I cannot get anything to work. Am I out of luck unless I buy an old computer with a 32 bit version of windows?

Dwight,

While I'm not sure exactly how you are getting the Message that you report, your 500D/T1i most definitely DOES NOT require 32-bit Windows (unless that is the OLD version of BYE which you downloaded by accident).

Please go back to the BYE Download Page and download the Current version of BYE.

Let us know how you fare...

First off, I apologize but I identified my camera incorrectly. It is a 300d (Canon Digital Rebel) I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program. Still reports it cannot find my camera. I have insured it was indeed on (several times) and the battery is fully charged. The log entries are as follows:

Two things jump out from the log file.

1) The Canon210 version of the SDK is for much older cameras and since your camera is newer than that version of the SDK, it cannot possibly work for you. Always choose Canon instead. Canon is the latest version of the SDK.

2) You see The "EdsInitializeSDK() ERROR!". According to the message in the red area at the very top of this page, that error indicates that BYE did not install correctly. I would suggest downloading the BYE 3.2.0 RC from the Pre-releases area of the Downloads page. See Pre-releases on the right hand menu. The Pre-release has an improved installer.

Thanks for your suggestion. I uninstalled and reinstalled the pre release version; same result. As for the drivers, on every occasion I tried both the Canon and Canon 210 suggestions that popped up. I think perhaps my camera is just too old for this. I believe it was manufactured around 2005. The following is the log from the pre release installation...

Somehow, in big letters you said that you were trying to get your 300D to connect with BYE, but it got changed in the posts themselves to a 500D. If you scroll to the bottom of this page and click on Supported Cameras under BackyardEOS you will see a large table which says that the 300D is not supported by BYE...Actually BYE will not connect with your camera because Canon chose not to support tethered control of the 300D. There is nothing that BYE can do to get around that. So, it has nothing to do with the age of the camera.

Sorry for all the confusion.
