Yes, you need the key you got by email back then.  Do you still have that email?

The licensing scheme changed with the release of BYE 3.1.0. Before 3.1.0 the key was a multi-line key that was sent to you via email when your purchase was confirmed. With the release of BYE 3.1.0 the key became a one-line key that is stored under your username on the O'Telescope servers. You must use your old license key to obtain a new key. It was your responsibility to maintain a copy of your old key. The new key is available to you at any time simply by logging onto this web site using the same username. The upgrade instructions tell you how to use your old key to get a new key.
