Live View on BYN

midnight_lightning

Question

Hi,

I use a D750 with BYN and its a great combination but one feature that would be really beneficial would be to be able to see the LIve View screen in BYD.

Is this already possible, I cant see how to do it?

I use Live View to do 3 star alignment using EQMod/Stellarium with a game pad to make fine adjustments.

Unfortunately this means I have to keep getting up to be able to see the live view screen and I am finding it harder to see, especially when it's pointing at the ground, as I get older. Be great to just sit at my PC and do it via BYN.

Cheers

Mid

Mid,

You definitely should be able to see LiveView images on the BYN screen, especially if you can see them on the camera's LCD screen.

If the camera is set up for LiveView all that should be needed is to go to the Frame & Focus mode in BYN. LiveView should be automatically started. In fact, you should hear the mirror flip up.

These articles may help. One shows how to set the LiveView switch position to photography mode and the other shows how to turn in Exposure preview in the camera:

I hope that these links help.

My advice for using a Bahtinov mask is to forget about the Bahtinov focus metric in BYN.  Use your eyes, the spikes will be very evident and and you'll know with pin point accuracy when you are in focus just by looking at the spikes.  This is what I do personally.

Regards,

One word of Caution:

Extensive use of LiveView during Focusing and Alignment will work to Heat Soak your DSLR, such that you'll need to leave a good period of time (30-60 minutes) for the Sensor and Electronics to Cool such that they won't introduce Significant Pixel Noise into your first rounds of Imaging Exposures.
