Windows 11 5D markii

donniemsmith@yahoo.com

Question

I have been running my 5D mark ii for a couple years and recently it stopped connecting trough backyard eos. I dont know if ithis is a recent windows update issue. The pop up references that the 5D needs a 32 bit interface. Do you know of any way to switch to 32bit? Or is there something else I can do to get connected?

First, for an issue with Backyard EOS you should post to the BYE Forum, instead of the General Forum. This will make it easier for other Canon and BYE users to find your thread.

Which version of BYE are you running? If it is not BYE 3.2.3 then please update and let us know if that addressed your issue.

Well, the 5D is much older than the 5D Mark II. The 5D does require a 32-bit version of Windows. However the 5D Mk II is compatible with 64-bit Windows and should work just fine with BYE on Windows 11, either 32-bit or 64-bit.

When you attempt to connect, you need to select the Canon driver option, not the Canon210 driver option which is for those very old cameras, like the 5D.

Let us know if you are making progress in resolving this.

Thanks,

thanks for your response and moving my question to the proper forum.

I am running the BYE 3.2.3 loaded a fresh windows 11 tried  multiple usb cables and cameras that have all worked in the past for me. use this system quite often and it usually works flawlessly. the only new thing i have done that i feel could have changed my setup is i used a planetary camera  where i downloaded ascom and firecapture maybe one of those made a change to my usb drivers. both ascom and firecapture wher deleted before i downloaded a fresh windows 11 and havent been re installed

There are some ASCOM drivers for DSLR cameras that could prevent BYE from connecting, but other non-ASCOM camera apps like the Canon EOS Utility can also prevent BYE from connecting to the 5D Mk II. This is because only 1 application can be connected to the camera at a time.

It is possible that the EOS Utility, if installed, could automatically connect to the camera when you first plug in the camera and power it on.  This would give the symptoms that you are seeing. If this is the case you may need to configure the EOS Utility to not load when Windows first recognizes the camera.
