Camera will not connect

Lostincyberspace

Question

Hello, connected my Nikon D610 yesterday and tried again today, click "Connect" button and program will not see it. The camera is turned on, there is no files on the memory cards, camera has power, it is connected with cable from camera to usp port on computer and I tried turning off the camera then turn back on, no go!  Camera connected fine a couple of months ago but not now, what do you suggest?      Thanks

If your camera has built-in WiFi connectivity, be sure that it is disabled and that you are using a good USB cable between the camera and the PC.

Does Windows see the camera when you plug the cable into both the camera and the PC and turn the camera on? If so Windows should make a "found a new device" sound and you should see the camera listed in the Windows Device Manager. Also if Windows sees the camera when you first power it on and prompts for "what to you want to do"? Choose the "take no action" choice. The default option is to download images. This causes a different driver to be installed and you will be unable to control the camera with BYN.

My camera does not have wifi, I am using the same cable each time, when I click "connect" there is a momentary pause then I get a window stating the camera is not found and a series of questions, that I should look at.

I tried to attempt again last night and now my program wants me to put in my licence key, which I cannot find and I have no idea to whom I make the request to retrieve it.   Thanks

Your key is always available to you here on the web site. Scroll to the top of this page and select My Purchases -> Orders from the menu bar.

Perhaps I am mistaken, but I thought that you could get a WiFi accessory for the D610. I just wanted to make sure that you weren't trying to use BYE with that accessory plugged in.

One other quirk with Nikon cameras is that the Nikon SDK wants to index all the images on whatever memory card is installed in the camera. This can cause BYN to take several minutes to connect. The solution is to put an empty, or nearly empty, SD card into the camera when you are going to use it with BYN. This is something that, unfortunately BYN cannot be programmed to avoid.

Hello, I did look at the "My purchases" and it says I don not have any orders to show, even though I purchased in Feb 2020, so it seems, I have no record of the licence key.

As for the camera, I never bothered with the wifi, I think hard wire is best. When I do use the BYN, I always use empty SD cards to start the session.

One thing I noticed is I have Nikon Camera Control, would this interfere with BYN?,

So, right now my major problem is the get the BYN back up and running but I cannot without getting the licence key, I still need that.

Well, I have looked everywhere  I might have info when I ordered the BYN originally and I can find nothing, so I have no idea how to get the licence key, I am hoping that there is still a record of the purchase at the store and they will be able to give the number or code to me, fingers crossed!

As to the camera, it seems even though I do not start the Nikon Camera Control program, as soon as I plug in my camera to the computer`s usp port, the program starts, (that is microsoft for you), so I am guessing that is what screwed up the BYN from working!

He purchased under another account, and he does not remember the email he used :(

I cannot help with what old account you used to  purchase BYN.

Perhaps you could correspond privately with the admins to give them the credit card number that you used to purhase your license and they could find your login name from that.

You could also uninstall the Nikon Camera Control program if you cannot otherwise prevent it from automatically connecting with the camera.

I do not keep credit card numbers, so I would not be able to retrieve anything this way.

Bottom line is that email/password is personal data and everyone is responsible to key a record of their personal data. Unless I get the email used for the other account I'm unable to perform a search.... and if the email would be known, changes are the user would be able to log in directly (assuming he/she remembers the password), and if not the forgot password would send to the email used to register the account.... so bottom line, the email used to registers is what is needed.

Yes, I can stop the Nikon Camera Control but that will not help me get BYN up and running without the licence key and since I am not so good with computers, I did not do this forum thing until much later, I have had various email problems over the years so any emails I had with the purchase of BYN have been lost, if I was smart, I should have written the darn number down somewhere.

As I said, you need to figure out / remember the email you used to register back then when you purchased. I have over 35,000 accounts in the system, and the one unique key to retrieve an account is either the email or username used to create the account. I need one or the other.

Failing that, you may need to purchase again to get a key, I would hate for you to spend another $50 knowing that you have an account.

EDIT: If you don't have access to that email that is fine, I can always change the email associated to your old account with your current email.... but first I need that older email to find your old account in the system.
