Mirror Lock capability

Zoid

Question

Fairly new to Backyard EOS. My question is - is it possible to engage "mirror lockup" while taking a series of pictures. On both my XSi and my T3i, using the "mirror lock" function on the camera disconnected from BYE requires that you depress the shutter button twice - once to move the mirror, and once to open the shutter. Is this same procedure possible using BYE. I have tried it with "Live View" both on and off. Perhaps I am just doing (or not doing) something silly. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

cheers - bob

You might want to revisit the reasoning behind wishing to utilize Mirror-Lockup.

It can be beneficial if you are imaging with a Longer FL Lens on a not-so-steady Static Tripod.

But if mounted as the Imager on a substantial Telescope / EQ Mount Combo, then the minor amount of vibration possibly induced by the Mirror-Slap is usually strongly overridden by the shear Mass of the rest of the Equipment AND by the mere seconds of Vibration compared to the Minutes-long Exposure.

So, while saying that Mirror Lockup does Nothing Wrong, it often contributes very little to the resulting Image...

Concerning the answer about "not worrying too much about the mirror slap" - much appreciated. My concern was that I was using the camera as an autoguider for a PEC run on my new MyT mount - and it was recommended that I take 1/2 second shots non-stop for up to 20 minutes. Just seemed like lots of flapping around on a 1/2 second shot.

Yes - impromptu - is probably the correct word. Although "autoguiding" with the T3i is probably not the correct terminology - I was using it to perform a PEC run on the MyT mount. It is the only CCD chip I currently have - out of $$ after the mount purchase.

Still slowly progressing - step by step - so any and all advice is greatly  appreciated.

And I am very open to any "re-thinking" ideas - because, while barking up the wrong tree is usually a good learning experience, it can get frustrating.

While you don't have an AutoGuider Rig yet, you'll probably want one on your Shopping List as soon as your Budget recovers.

Your Equipment List shows that you could otherwise look to setup a Dual-Mount / Dual-Scope / Dual-Camera configuration using BYE Premium's Multi-Camera Support.

But, your AVX would definitely want AutoGuiding (even if your MyT Mount doesn't need it)...

Actually, as CCD chips go...  In your Equip List, only the Orion StarShoot Deep Space Video Camera has a CCD Chip...  (not that the distinction really matters...)

And remember:  The thing about Barking Up the Wrong Tree is that it Does get the Squirrels' Attention...
