Having to reauthenticate

mcovington

Question

Once last night, and twice tonight, BYNikon asked me to enter my user name (not key, just user name) to re-authenticate.  (My work style is such that I start BYNikon and shut it down more than once per session, e.g., early on to take flats, and then later to take pictures; I may also stop when changing camera batteries.)

What's going on?

When it reauthenticates, is it contacting your server?  Would it have been able to run if I had not been connected to the Internet?

For purchase keys internet is not required, if it can't reach the server it will do a local validation and let you go on with your night no problem.

License file is stored in c:\users\<username>\appdata or the registry, depending on the version.

Running BYE with Admin rights can cause side effects with regard to ASCOM. It is to avoided.

I think I dimly remembered hearing about that, which is why I was reluctant to run it that way.  I'll check file permissions.  It is now consistent -- every time I launch BYNikon I have to reauthenticate.

Oh, and this should be the registry location

\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\O'Telescope\BackyardEOS (or BackyardNIKON)
