Live preview

I’m using a Canon EOS 400d with an EFS 18-55 lens. I can take photos but cannot get a live preview to allow focusing. I’ve read the user manual but cannot find what I’m doing wrong.

Your camera, the 400D, is very old and it does not support LiveView.

BYE is not magic it can only use those features of the camera that Canon allows 3rd party software to control. If the camera does not support a particular function or feature, then BYE cannot support it with that model.

BYE cannot manufacture a feature that the camera itself does not support. Canon started adding live preview in 2008 with the 450D camera. Sadly, the 400D was the last model Canon released where live preview was not available.

Many thanks for that - I shall have to think about an upgrade.

If you consider an Upgrade, make sure that you check back with the BackyardEOS Supported Cameras Page.

Even some of the newest Mirrorless Cameras are poorly supported by Canon SDK for certain features.

Question, just downloaded trial version, no live view. Based on above comments my Canon EOS 7D doesn't support live view hence, no live picture ? Correct ?

Please start a new thread, you have a 7D, and this post is about the 400d, not related al all, the 400d does not even have live view.
