Bye Log File Locations

Jim

Question

Guylain,

After a late night I have looked further into the logfile save locations this morning.

The first time BYE opens it places the log files in D:\Users\Jim\Pictures\BackyardTEMP\Logs (the default location of my Pictures, Documents, etc. on my HDD) both the application logfile as well as the backgroundworker logfile.

I change the locations of the save, etc. locations (from my HDD to SSD to improve speed) and the application logfile moves to the new location of C:\BYE\BackyardTEMP\Logs but the backgroundworker logfile remains being saved in D:\Users\Jim\Pictures\BackyardTEMP\Logs.

This is both on my desktop and laptop if I change the location of BackyardTEMP.

I have deleted BackyardEOS and BackyardTEMP from the D:\.... \Pictures\ location but as soon as I next open BYE BackyardTEMP is immediately created again in the standard D:\......\Pictures\ location.

Regards

Jim

Is it possible that Jim is not giving the background worker program a chance to exit, so it is still using the same path?

I don't think so becasue each BYE restart will fire a new background worker process and the old one will auto-terminer a few minutes after it is done processing what it had in it's queue.

Guylain,

On my desktop the logfiles (since I loaded a new version of BYE into a new directory) are both being saved to my default Windows Users\....\Pictures folder in the BackyardTEMP\Logs folder. No issue as I only use my desktop for testing, etc.

On my laptop I have removed BYE, re-installed it into a newly named folder location (I.e. not the install default location) and on first opening BYE both log files are saved in the default Windows Users\Picures....etc. folder as per the above.

The time stamps I am referring to are the date - time  stamps in the file names, see below examples from my desktop.

logfile-[20150119-15h16m01s044]-backgroundworker-[5364]-2015-01-19.txt

logfile-[20150119-15h15m52s916]-[6704]-2015-01-19.txt

These files are created seconds after BYE is opened.

On my laptop I have changed the save locations for the Download Folder, Plan Folder, and BackyardTEMP Folder in the BYE settings screen from the default Windows User\...\Pictures\ folder to a different folder on the SSD drive as it is obviously a lot quicker than the HDD (not really sure if the drive read write speed is all that significant compared to the USB picture download speeds, however it seemed like a good idea at the time!).

On the Laptop the application logfile is being saved in the new BackyardTemp\Logs folder on the SSD but the backgroundworker is being saved in the original Windows default User\....\Picures\BackyardTEMP\Logs folder. If I delete the BackyardTEMP folder from the default Windows location it is simply re-made the next time BYE is opened and the backgroundworker log files saved to that location.

Hopefully this is clear now?   :D

Regards

Jim

Guylain,

I wasn't expecting the time stamps to exactly match, just that they should both be saved in the same place! I was just trying to say in the earlier email in response to astroman133 that I was fairly certain they were 'matching' log files as the time stamps match.

logfile-20150119-15h36m43s304-1032-2015-01-19.txt

In the attached logfile from my laptop it shows the C:\BYE\BackyardTEMP and C:\BYE\BackyardTEMP\Logs folders being referenced. However the Backgroundworker log file is still being saved in the default Windows location on the D: drive.

Hi Jim,

Yeah, I know, sorry for the confusion :(

The fact that the background worker log files do not honor the BackyardTEMP location is a bug :(
