Sporadic "image session cancelled"

logfile-[20210109-19h27m18s789]-[5740]-2021-01-09.txtI use BYN 2.1.1 Premium edition with a Nikon D7200 and WO Redcat 51 scope, connected directly to a Primaluce Eagle3 running Window10.

I get a sporadic "image session cancelled" error, with the following log two types of log entry (corresponding log files attached):

I already have switched USB ports (both USB2 and USB3) and made sure drivers are up-to-date, and beginning to wonder if this could be software / Nikon SDK related ?

No, I have not yet swapped the USB cable, as I rather would like to first identify the the root cause.

Any help would be appreciated to pinpoint this rather annoying error that has caused multiple unsupervised imaging sessions to be cut short.

I do not know whether it will fix your issue, but you need to set the Mirror Lock delay to 0. It is not supported for Nikon cameras! This is confirmed by looking at the Supported cameras table for BYN and has been discussed in several previous threads. In any case with long exposure photos, any vibration caused by mirror movement in the first second will be overwhelmed by the subsequently collected photons.

I believe that there may be a problem with BYN for the D7200. Some models have separate shooting modes for Bulb and Manual. From my research this is not the case with the D7200. This could also be contributing to your issue. Hopefully the authors can comment.

Sometimes the camera can shut down on its own. This is usually a safety mechanism designed into the camera by Nikon. There is nothing that BYN can do to stop it. It can be due to a low battery or the camera overheating. It may also be caused by some setting that shuts down the camera after a pre-defined period of inactivity, or some other issue in the camera itself. As part of the shutdown event the camera sends a Camera SHUTDOWN notification to BYN.

Mirror lock would definitely cause odd behavior with BYN.  Make 100 percent sure it is off.

I'm also positive this is not cable related.

Define sporadic? Does it work for 10 images then suddenly it stops?

Yes, it is very sporadic, sometimes it stops after 5 images, sometimes it runs for 30+ images. There seems to be no pattern.

Also, I run the camera from aregulated power supply (Eagle3), so that probably rules that out as well.

I just check the MirrorLock and Mirror Lock Delay. They are both set to zero. Not sure why BYN would try to change it to 2?

it is currently - 5 C, so I would rule out the camera overheating. Also I shoot continuously 300s exposures so inactivity does not sound likely either.

The way you defined sporadic seems to indicate an environmental issue.

Could it be caused by something going to sleep?  USB port, HD, laptop, etc...?

Whilst possible, that seems a rather remote possibility i think - I have made sure that I am running a "high performance" power plan that prevents the PC going to sleep and have disabled the USB selective suspend, both in the power plan and the device driver, as well as the wi-fi card. Furthermore, at times I am running SGPro in parallel with a cooled camera, and have never experienced any issues.

The most frequent error message is the "Enum of type kNkMAIDArrayType_Boolean cannot be parsed. Not implemented". Would this provide a clue?

I'm not sure where to go from here.

At 08:16:42,079 the camera dial is set to MANUAL as it should.  46 millisecond later, at 08:16:42,125, the dial is set to '' (as in blank) and soon after BYN throws and error because it is expecting it to be MANUAL and the camera as changed event changing it from MANUAL to BLANK.  BYN does not have a function to change the dial, it must be set manually.  The fact that the camera changes it is a mystery to me at this time

When this happens, if you turn the dial away from MANUAL and then back, can you continue the plan?
