Last version to work on Windows XP?

dkerber

Question

My astro laptop died last week, and while waiting for my new one to come in, I'm using an ancient Netbook with WinXP. It has a 2.x version of BYE on it, but I want to update to the latest one that will work. Did any of the 3.x versions work on XP? I tried the latest 3.2, and the install fails at the very end, apparently where it's trying to update the registry.

What isn't supported on XP? ver 3? Back in the day, 2.x worked fine on XP when I first purchased a BYE license.

Everything.  I updated .net, and a few other things.

Use it if it works... but at your own risk.

v2 will probably work, but beyond that I made no attempt to support XP specifically in 3.x onward.

The authors made a decision to drop support for BYE running on Windows XP because Microsoft long ago dropped support for XP and there is no guarantee that the versions of the .NET framework and the C++ runtime versions that are required by BYE and the Canon SDK can be installed and actually work on XP.

Just remember that the older the version that you install, the fewer the number of camera models that are supported and the older those models are. Don't install version 2.0.9 and expect it to support a DIGIC VI, VII, or VIII camera.
