Backyard Nikon intermittently freezes

catherineryanhyde

Question

Hi. I was using Backyard Nikon without issues for about a month. The version is 2.0.11, premium, and my camera is the D810A. Now it works well sometimes, but about every fourth time the program freezes. I usually realize something is amiss when I click on Frame & Focus. Both that button and the imaging button seem to be highlighted at once, and it never clicks over to Frame & Focus. At that point there's no getting out of it--clicking the X to close the program does nothing. It's completely frozen. Yesterday I restarted the computer and tried using the second camera option (version 2.0.11, premium, but with the numbers 1502 after it) and everything was fine. This morning both are working flawlessly. But I never know when I'm headed into a freeze. Is there an action I'm taking that's causing  this problem? Would reinstalling Backyard Nikon help? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

This is a odd behavior for sure to have both Imaging and Frame&Focus lit at the same time, it would indicate an in-software event timing issue, probably caused by a slow computer of other computer resource contention preventing the events to be processed in a timely matter.  This would be a first, but not impossible.

As suggested in the previous post, please download and try BYN 2.1.

Hi,

I've been having the same issue, both with BYN v2.1.0 and it's immediate predecessor. I am using an Apple Air (2018) with 512Gbyte SSD (fast) running Windows 10 in Bootcamp mode. Also, when I click on "frame and focus," BYN will sometimes divert back to "imaging mode." I keep toggling the legs and after awhile both issues resolve, and I can get on with collecting data.

Best,

Don
