Canon EOS 1DC Support

patrickherborn

Question

Given that this model is not listed in the supported cameras, it is no surprise that it doesn't work right now. Fair enough.

That being said, it should be relatively straightforward to make it work. It is very similar to the EOS 1DX which BYE lists as being supported, *and* Canon list the EOS 1D C as supported by the SDK according to the following Canon press release from Jan 2019 : http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/canon-sdk-updated/

Note that the release history back to v3.5 does not show addition of the camera, so it most likely predates that release (ie it has been in there for a long time).

Would be good to see it working and happy to do testing / provide additional info that may be required.

Current release of BYE (downloaded a few days ago) on Windows 7 Professional 64Bit.

Cheers,

Pat.

I just uploaded 3.2.0.RC4 with Canon 1DC support.

Apologies for the delay in testing this!

I have downloaded and installed this version and am happy to report that this now connects to the camera just fine and so far the functions seem to work the way that they should. Need to do more detailed testing, but it's looking good so far :)

Many thanks,

Pat.

You may be the first BYE user with that camera model. Guylain will likely request some model information from you. It usually doesn't take long for him add the model info into a pre-release version of BYE, but be patient. I understand that his day job is keeping him very busy.

Also, your press release relates to the European version of the SDK. The North American version, which must be used with BYE, is not necessarily in sync. However, after a year and a half it is likely that the SDK that BYE uses does support your model.

Do you have a 1D C you can try now?

Yes, I do indeed. Happy to provide whatever info you may need.

The EOS 1D C is now quite old but was sold in the NA region as well as in Europe, so one would imagine that the SDK would cover a model that was sold in that market - it would be highly odd for it to be missing from the NA release (though not impossible of course). It is a bit of a unicorn though - not sold in great numbers due to its price (pretty much twice that of the 1DX) and it has never been replaced per se - the 1DX MkII which was supposed to be the replacement doesn't have unlimited recording (and so avoids the "video camera" tax the 1DC was subject to) - indeed if I am not mistaken, not even the 1DX MkIII does - and therefore it remains, to this day, the only Canon DSLR to ever wear the vaunted "C" badge (ie Cinema Line like the venerable C300 / C500 and their present day successors).

Cheers,

Pat.

Try it with the 3.2 pre-release. It won't connect but it will give you some numbers.  Send those numbers to me, I need them to make it work.

Regards,

After a minute's head scratching where to find 3.2 I did find it, grabbed it, installed it and tried to connect to the camera.... as you suggested it did not work, BUT I have some log info for you :)

While you're after camera number info, I might as well also provide the actual details of the 1D MkII N (in case they're of use to you) :

Hope this helps,

That is the number I needed and this confirms it's supported by the current Canon SDK in BYE 3.2.

22:13:35  YOUR *REAL* MODEL NUMBER IS 2147484452(80000324)

I'll try to do some black magic and hopefully I can make it work by the weekend :)

Thanks for confirming both that you have the info that you need and also that the SDK does support the camera. Presumably this will be a new RC so I'll keep an eye out for that. Of course if you would prefer that I test before you publish an RC the feel free to drop me a mail :)

Cheers,

Pat.

Just another entry in the Switch, I presume?

A bit more than that.  I have to register the camera dial functions and a few other properties. Live view is sometimes a pain.
