Nikon D850

Do you know when I can use my Nikon D850 with Backyard Nikon?

The short answer is No.

We are at the mercy if Nikon. BYN cannot support a new camera until Nikon supports it in a release of their Software Development Kit (SDK).

I was just wondering...Since it does work with Digicamcontrol, the Joopic cambuddy, I was hoping you would have an idea about the timeframe.

I'm very happy with your software, and, I'm really interested (skies permitting) to test it in astrophotograpy.

Anyway, Adobe Lightroom lacks support for this camera as well (although for example RawTherapee does support it...). So, I'll try to be patient!

Digicamcontrol does not use the same method (the SDK) to control a camera. Adobe Camera Raw does.

As astroman said, I'm at the mercy of the Nikon SDK.  This is out of my control.  If you feel  the need to push someone yo need to push Nikon to release the SDK.

This is the list of SDK currently available, the D850 is not on that list yet.

Unfortunately...

it dus recognize the D850 but couldn’t connect with it

I've rebooted my PC, and then connected my Nikon D850.

 

After that, I tried the button Connect, and chose D850

 

But...

 

This is what I get:

Did you contact Guylain privately to get a special download link to try the new version that supports the D850?

Yes it does need a bit of TLC... and I'm taking it slow between xmas and New Year... resting and drinking, lol

I have just release 2.0.10.RC1 (pre-release).  Please try this version with your D850.

In the first link I sent you I had inadvertently copied the wrong Nikon SDK files for the D850 and I'm hopping this was the issue.

This is odd, the driver/module are 100% those given by Nikon SDK for the D850, I made sure of this in this second build.

Keep me posted on the second pc.

I downloaded the update a few minutes ago and tried it on 2 different PCs, although both are Win 10 64bit.  I received the same errors in connecting.  Camera was on and connected to the PC and I could access it.   I don't have any Win 7 PCs to try it on.

This tells me the SDK Module file is not the right one... but I have verified twice and I'm using the exact one provided by Nikon.  I'm stumped!

Tried on Laptop Win 10 64 too  same message. Did have some hurdles to install as Windows and Virus don't recognise authentication of new file but thought i got by that..

I have the correct drivers from Nikon, I triple checked and will it says Module(Unknown).

Hi Gene,

Sadly no.  My next step is to send an email to Nikon asking for a loaner camera.  It is rare that I can not make a camera work without physically having the exact model for testing; the D850 looks to be one of them

Okay, news from Nikon.  They are trying to source a camera from their loaner pool.  Once a D850 is available from the loaner pool they will send me one for testing.  Hopefully this will be within the next few weeks.

I just heard from Nikon.... they are sending me a D850 in March for 2 weeks.  Let hope I can figure out the issue is during this time frame with the camera on hand.
