BYE 3.1.8 Image Capture Filename Template Question - <fwhm>

JTWaters

Question

In the Settings Screen you have the option to select the fields you want the ‘sub name’ to include.  One of the field options is <fwhm>.  Is this truly a real-time calculation of a star’s FWHM?  How does this work and does it pick an arbitrary star to determine the focus?

If this is actually a real-time calculation it would be very helpful to be able to set a trigger so that if it exceeds a specific value imaging is stopped and/or an alarm set off.

It is not a real time calculation, but rather FWHM calculation from the standard deviation of the all pixel values in the image.  However, it could probably by used in the same way.  If this number varies considerably form image to image then you can deduct that you are going out of focus...but it could also mean a cloud passing by, etc...
