Focus problems with EOS 7D Mkii

giorgio_leon

Question

Hi,

I'm exploring BYEOS trial version with my Canon 7D Mkii.

Connecting to the camera is working correctly, but I'm facing problems during focussing.

My lens is set initially to AF mode and the 7D to "one shot AF mode".

Pointing to a star, initially the camaras AF sysgtem tries to aquire focus but stops search

somewhere as it is not possible to achieve perfect focus on a star (as expected).

I can control the focus setting with the "in" and "out" arrow keys from BYE and the lens reacts. The

results can also be aobserved in the FWHM indication.

The problem however is, that this focus setting is not stable and not maintained by the camera.

Almost instantly after the manual interaction out of BYE the cameras AF systems gets active again

and reverts the focus setting more or less to the previous stage.

Can somebody help ?

Thanks

After clicking to the arrow buttons to adjust the focus setting the camera started automatically another AF run within a tenth of a second and reverted back to the previous focus stage without any intervention by myself.

But in the mean time have found the solution:

Although the focus mode for normal shots were already set to "one shot" AF, additionally

in the camera set-up menu I had to set "Continous AF" to "disable".

Giorgio,

What are you doing to make the camera autofocus again? Trying to take an exposure?

My T5i has a Custom Setting called "1: Shutter/AE lock button". Your camera may have a similar setting. I have it set to "AE lock/AF" this moves the autofocus from the shutter to the "*" button. That way pressing the shutter halfway does not cause the camera to try to re-focus the lens.

Not tried this but I would have thought manual focus would be more appropriate for AP, or is it not possible to focus the camera using the focus buttons in BYE with the lens switched to manual focus?
