Display the Chip Temperature from EXIF Data

JTWaters

Question

I take as many Lights as I can during a given session and take Darks later.  Sometimes when I am packing up but usually the next night paying close attention to the EXIF chip temperature of the Lights.  I try to get the Dark chip temperature very close to the Lights.

It would help if BYE could read and display the Chip Temperature or modify the sub naming to include it.

If you are using a Canon camera then this does happen. You just need to include the <temperature> tag in the file name template. It also displays it in the Camera Information Center at the top center of the screen after an image has been downloaded. Of course, in order for this to work you need to uncheck the "Skip READ Exif data" setting on the Advanced Settings screen.

Here is an example --> M33_LIGHT_300s_1600iso_f5-6_+72f_20161031-17h32m34s807ms.cr2

How well the temperature reflects the chip temperature is debatable. Canon does not publicize where the temperature sensor is actually located. Still it is the best source for the internal camera temperature.

If you are using a Nikon camera, I do not believe that the internal (sensor) temperature is available to programs like BYN.
