Auto Camera disconnect/reconnect

Gordb

Question

I'm wondering if it might be possible to have an option to disconnect the camera after an imaging run and then reconnect it after a delay and begin another imaging run? My thought was to complete an image, disconnect, slew to another target and plate solve and autofocus using another programme (e.g., SGP) after which it disconnects, then reconnect the camera in BYEOS after a set delay period and begin another imaging run.

The advantage would be that mount control, plate solving and autofocus could be handled by an independent programme and, for example, autofocus within BYEOS would no longer be an issue. The focus of BYEOS could then remain on image acquisition.

Use of BYE does not preclude mount control by an independent program. Of course you would have to disconnect the camera (but shutting down BYE is not necessary) in order for some other software to do plate solving. Or you could use AstroTortilla to plate solve. Since AT can communicate with BYE, you would not need to disconnect or shut down BYE. So the only issue left is autofocus, and if you could get Steve Brady (author of FocusMax) to incorporate BYE control into FocusMax, that issue would be solved, as well.

Of course that means that you would have to choose to use tools that are designed to interact with BYE, as opposed to tools that do not. You could also lobby with the developers of the tools that you use to consider incorporating BYE support through the published external API.
