5x zoom not working on Canon 7D Mark II

Cobra

Question

Yesterday I noticed, that the 5x zoom no longer works for me (it used to work before).

When I click it, BackyardEOS freezes and takes a few seconds until it just resets to the state before I hit the "5x" button.

It seems to me like it encounters a timeout.

In the logfiles it says it is not able to set the zoom, because the camera is busy:

I tried reseting the camera to factory settings, to make sure that its not me having changed any settings on the camera that might cause this. Still same result

G'day,

Same issue though different log messages. I have a Canon 750D and the 5X button freezes the app for around 30 seconds but does not engage the zoom mode. Fortunately I can do it manually on the camera itself so I have a work around.

Here is the log entry when pressing 5X. Th outcome is the same for 3.1.6 and 3.1.7.

18:30:17  750D-T6i CONNECTED!
18:31:05  Unable to set LiveviewAutoFocusMode, current setting is assumed!

What version of BYE are you using???

I am using 3.1.6 and DIGIC5/6 to connect to the camera

For now I am just pressing the button with the magnification glass on it manually on the camera to zoom in

As Rick said the Canon215 drivers when connection your camera.

Also, start live view and wait a solid 5 seconds before pressing 5x.  Does it work?

Does it work with 3.1.5?

Do you recall changing a setting in the camera menu recently?

Keep us posted.

I had a similar problem with my 7D mkii and resolved this like Jcurbo found with his camera, the focus selection in Liveview affects whether or not 5x and 10x zoom is available (on camera and via BYE), see this post:

Hopefully this will resolve your issue with 5x and 10x zoom in BYE.

Oh, thank you for finding that thread Jim, I had forgotten about it.

Much appreciated.
