XTi is not connecting

grandpa

Question

Purchased BYE and cant get the camera to connect with the program. The camera connects with EOS utility and controls the camera but it won't connect with BYE. With BYE open and camera connected to the computer, I turn the camera on and I get a promp to select camera driver and when I choose one, it doesn't connect.

The instruction reads :

2. Important: Please ensure the in-camera option "Communication" is set to either

"Normal" or "PC Connection". If it is set to "PRINT/PTP" it will not work. (The
"PRINT/PTP" setting is for printing images and is not suitable to control the
camera for imaging purposes.)

Their is no in-camera communication option in my camera.

EOS Utility is not running

Look in Task manager.  I guarantee you it is running if you get this error message.

Keep us posted.

Not showing in task mgr. I'll try a restart when I get home to see if that works.

I understand... but their is no scenario in which this message is displayed and EOS Utility is not running.  I guarantee there is a process containing the name "EOS Utility" running, that I'm 100% sure, without a doubt.

The process could be running under a different account and this may be why you are not seeing it.

Alternatively you can go in Settings -> Advance Settings and check the "Skip EOS Utility Check" and restart BackyardEOS.  But then you are responsible to ensure no other application is connected to your camera... if yes you will have other issues as only one software can control the camera at the same time.  This is how the Canon SDK works.

That is quite common for tasks that have ceased, that they leave remnant processes still running. It is quite eye opening when you look to see what processes are lurking in the background after closing some applications, they don't close down in a clean and controlled manner!

My T3 is also not connecting. Maybe wrong communication setting, but where in the camera do I find those settings?

Sybren

Please try connecting your T3 with EOS Utility.  If it does not work the issue is with the camera or usb cable.  If is does work the issue is with BackyardEOS.

I have over 1,000 users with a T3 and this model has been tried and tested.
