Malwarebytes - Website Blocked Due to Riskware

SilentGlider

Question

Just letting you know that when I have Malwarebytes real time protection active, I'm getting a website blocked due to riskware warning when I try to access the O'Telescope website. I added the IP address of the site to the exclusion list to be able to post this message. Any idea what the issue is?

Have you asked the folks at Malwarebytes? It could just be that their app is being over-protective of a site that is not well-known to them. That is why they have a way for you to tell the app that you trust the site.

BTW, the O'Telescope office is on vacation for the next couple of weeks, so replies by them may be delayed.

I'll try to determine if there is a way to ask about why a specific IP address is triggering the riskware warning. My dilemma is that I trusted the site before I started getting the warning but I'm not so sure now. I trust it enough to post here but just to be safe I'm doing a deep scan after every visit to the site.

There are no Riskware on the O'Telescope site.  I run both Norton SafeWeb and Malwarebytes, and get no such warnings.  Nor have since inception well over a Decade ago.

It may be that one of the Co-Lo sites for O'Telescope's Hosting Provider was reported for whatever previous site ran on the same location.  Or it may be that some scan of yours saw a recent download of BYE or BYN as "Unknown/Infrequently Used" and flagged it's signature for future warnings.

In any case, O'Telescope is SAFE.  But do what you feel you must.

And, BTW:  This is one of the ways that MalwareBytes and the other AntiVirus/Malware Apps make their money - Report some sites as "Risky" and then when nothing adverse happens to the User, claim justification that "Of curse, Our App kept you Safe."
