3.5.0 X64 RC7 and D780 issues

AntonioMCitati

Question

I just downloaded the RC7 od 3.5.0 and found it working well with my D7100, while on the D780 the LiveView function is not working.
There is no way to activate LiveView from BYN on the D780.
Of course, because LiveView is not acive, focusing controls do not appear too. I can "force" focusing control to appear by manually activating LiveView on the camera, but no image whatsoever is transmitted to BYN. However, if after activating LiveView manually I press Snap an Image then the camera is going out of LiveView mode.
Snapping images appears to be working without issues.

Hope this can help in correcting the bug, but I understand it will be not easy unless you gain access to a D780 somehow...

Clear skies

Antonio

Antonio,

Have you tried using your D780 with other versions of BYN?

Please provide more detail about what is not working with your D780.

You said "There is no way to activate LiveView from BYN on the D780". This is confusing. Does it mean that there is no Frame & Focus button? Or that there is no LiveView button on the Frame & Focus screen? or that the button has no affect when pressed?

The chevron focusing controls should appear when Frame & Focus is selected after connecting BYN with the camera when the camera has a Nikon autofocus lens attached. If you add a lens, or change lenses, you should disconnect BYN first.

Taking a Snap image while LiveView is active does pause LiveView. This allows you to view the snap image. You can then resume LiveView. I believe that this is the design behavior.

Guylain may ask for a log file that was captured when you were trying to use your D780 with BYN. Please do not zip up all your log files. In fact, you should delete all the logs or save them to a different folder, recreate a Frame & Focus session with the D780 and shut down BYN. Provide him with just that single log file.

Thanks!

This issue with the D780 goes back several years.

I have never been able to make live work on the D780 for whatever reason. I don't know what is so special/different about this model sadly :(

While it seems as though most people don't look at the supported cameras list, perhaps it would be worth it to update that page to indicate that LiveView is not supported for the D780 maybe with a footnote that there is an issue with the Nikon SDK for this model that prevents BYN from working.
