Auto rotation setting Canon SL1

hefy_jefy

Question

It seems that, despite having the "image auto rotation" set to off, as the telescope follows the target at some point the camera decides that its time to go from "portrait" to "landscope" and the resulting CR2 files are rotated 90 degrees.  My processing software (Siril) seems mostly to handle it, but I noticed that occasionally it fails and rejects an image that occurs as the first rotated image.  Am I missing something here?

There is no such thing as an "Auto-Rotated RAW" Image.  Rather, the Camera simply sets a Flag in the RAW and in the EXIF Data that indicates whether Auto-Rotation was selected by the User.  It is then up to the Image Processing Software whether to check / honor that flag.  Most Daytime Image Software does honor it; most Astro Image Software does not.

BYE/BYN does NOT set or erase this Flag, rather simply passes along to the HDD whatever the Camera presents as the Image File.

Neither DSS nor PixInsight does anything with Auto-Rotate.

OK thanks, understood.  I will take a closer look at the apps I am using...
