According to Canon EDSDK Camera Compatibility list, the R8 is supported in versions 13.16.10 and later of the SDK. It is not yet listed in the BYE Supported Cameras list. This could mean that you are the first potential user of BYE who has asked about the R8.

Usually the developers need to tweak BYE to support a new camera and since it is impractical for them to test every camera in-house, they most often rely on users to assist them to verify BYE's compatibility with a new model. In your case, it is a case of the chicken or the egg. They need a user to help test, but you may want to buy the R8 if it is not compatible with BYE. That means that you need to be patient until another user who already has an R8 is willing to help test.

The most recent addition was the R10, if I remember correctly. It was added about 6 weeks ago and was tested by the user who found it worked well. They tested with a release candidate that is not available via the O'Telescope web site. The process should be similar to add the R8. See this thread.

@admin There is an issue with 3.2.4 RC3 version I got from your link

I don't get any thumbnail/preview image after taking image on Imaging section. Same consistent behavior with my old EOS T7i. I tried turning on processor affinity on as below thread. But it does not work. Can you please let me know how to resolve this?  The thumbnails are extremely essential on taking multiple photos and different frames.

Just to be clear about what you are reporting. The image is downloaded to the PC (you have selected PC as the Save To location), you see it on the main screen area, but there is no thumbnail strip across the bottom.

What is the selected Image Quality on the Settings dialog?

What are the Scale and Display Resolution on the Display Setting (right-click somewhere on the empty desktop and select Display Settings). For example, my PC shows 100% and a display resolution of 1920 x 1080. If you have a value greater than 100% or have a smaller screen it could be that BYE is sacrificing the thumbnail strip in order to preserve the rest of the screen regions. It may be a necessary tradeoff in order to magnify the display.

There is nothing special about the link I provide. It's the same version as the production version, with the exception that I added R8 connectivity.

The thumbnail is no different from the release production version.

Did you disable the thumbnail strip for displaying?

Please provide a print screen.

I am pretty sure it's something with this 3.2.4 - RC3.

With 3.2.3 POR version, It works correctly. With exactly same settings.

Logs are identical (tested with older camera that I know that works for sure)

One observation to add:

Once 3.2.4 is installed, if I install 3.2.3 or 3.2.2 on top of, it does not work on 3.2.2 & 3.2.3 either. I have to uninstall and delete all files from program files and virtualstore folder before installing 3.2.2 or 3.2.3 after installing 3.2.4.

I went back a looked a source control, and I guarantee with 100% certainty there is no code change that could introduce this behaviour; not even a Canon SDK upgrade bertween 3.2.3 and 3.2.4.

Out of curiosity, do you have another pc to try?

I just tried another PC (windows 10). It also behaves in same way. All the settings in this PC and my Win11 Surface tablet are default.

Here's a screenshot from this PC.

I was able to use this version last night but it was more cumbersome as I use "preview button" to get thumbnail/snapshot and then go to BackyardEOS folder and count how many each frames I took...

I am confused. Both the log file fragments show being to connected to a T7i, not an R8.

Yes for the copy and pasted log texts above, it was for T7i to show that it also has the same symptoms with T7i. For the attached screenshot in the post it was with R8.

Please try RAW only, you currently have RAW+JPG. I've seen this way back where downloading both images had a different outcome on some camera models, but I haven't seen this in recent years, but worth a try as a test.

EDIT: to change the image type, go to Settings and change it there.

Here is the weird behavior on 3.2.4 - RC3. Same behavior for both R8 and T7i

RAW : No thumbnail/preview downloading

RAW + JPG : No thumbnail/preview downloading

JPG : Thumbnail/preview

I actually do shoot with RAW only and it worked well with older versions
