Connection issues

Question

Hi there

I have a rather peculiar problem. I have BYE 3.2.2 Premium running on a Windows 10 laptop. My camera is an EOS Rebel T6. For some reason, I can no longer connect BYE to the camera. I suspect this issue started to occur after I accidentally dropped my camera last week. Device Manager does not recognize the camera nor does Windows Plug & Play. I've tried other USB cables and can rule out my laptop since other devices connect fine.

I am considering sending the camera for repair, but i hear the price can be steep even if it just a USB port repair.

Is there a workaround I can use to transfer camera images to BYE without a USB cable? Is there such a thing as a wireless SD card that could be utilized?

Thanks for any suggestions here...

Hari

That mishap is unfortunate.  The USB Connection is the only reliable connection through which BYE can Communicate with and Control the Camera Functions.

The Canon USA Spec Sheet for the T6 indicates that it has Built-In Wi-Fi support.  While BYE doesn't explicitly support Wi-Fi Connection, many users have found that if they establish the Wi-Fi Connection first using the EOS Utility provided by Canon, then Terminate that software without Disconnecting Wi-Fi, that BYE can then control the Camera wirelessly.  This is not assured, nor is it always a Stable Connection.  But, it is possible.

Canon Spec Sheet also mentions "expected compatibility" with the Eye-Fi SD Card.  This is confusing since the Spec Sheet also indicates Native Wi-Fi capability...

Thank you - I will try this option and see if it helps. I did look into eye Fi, but that company has ceased to exist.

If you want to control the camera from BYE then with the T6 you may be out of luck. If the camera has WiFi, you may be able to make that work, but you will need some other software to pair the camera to the computer, since the Canon SDK does not expose that capability to 3rd party developers like BYE.

If all you want to do is to transfer images, then you may consider removing the SD card and either plugging the SD card directly into the PC or using a SD-to-USB adapter. Both my desktop and my laptop have a slot to plug an SD card directly into the computer.

Thanks so much. I have sent the camera out for getting an estimate on the repair.
