Dummy Camera mode ..

ZeroID

Question

How difficult would it be to include a dummy camera mode in BYE ?

I run BYE on two PC's, the Ob PC for real imaging and my big PC inside for testing and planning. I often would like to test or experiment with different plans or modes without having to demount and bring the camera in and connecting it up each time. For example there is a partial lunar eclipse coming up shortly and I want to test some time lapse options. Preferably without going outside in the current wet conditions to drag in the hardware. ( I have my fingers crossed it will all clear by the weekend ).

Just an idea.

Would such a Demo Camera be able to access the Cache for Shutter and other settings applicable for the Real Camera which we use during our Production / Observatory activities??

I'd like to use the Demo Camera to setup accurate Capture Plans that are based upon my Real Camera - not just the limited set of settings available before a Camera is Connected.

No, for this you need to use the existing feature of loading/saving capture plan.  This is a Premium feature however.

If you have the Premium Edition... click the preview mode (available only in 3.1 when no camera is connected).  You can save/load capture plans.  The key here is to save at least one plan while your camera is connected and then load that plan in preview mode while the camera is not connected.  All the ISO and shutter values from that camera will now be available for you to create new plans.

I think this is what you are looking for... and it's already there :)

There is already a simulator camera but it is not available to everyone, I use it when I do demos and go to trade shows.

It would be relatively easy to make it available.  But the images are pre-canned imaged.
