Help File Help

Bob_Thomasson

Question

Hello,

I just upgraded to version 3.1.2 Premium from version 1.X, which I haven't used for years.   Trying to open the files in the Help (?) section in my new version, nothing happens.  I click on the + to expand the main topic and it expands OK, but the individual topics don't open when I click on them.  My operating system is Win7 Pro (although the Pro may be a misnomer in my case).   I Googled to see if I could find a solution and ran across another user who had the same issue.  Guylain advised him that the Help files are pdf and he needed to make sure that Adobe Acrobat  was the default pdf file reader.  That advice solved his problem but  my default pdf reader is Adobe Acrobat 9.0 and I open dozens of pdf files weekly without a problem.  I'm hoping there's a simple solution or I made a simple error.

Sure appreciate any suggestions.

Thank you,

Bob

This almost look to me like your Windows does not have the proper program setup to open chm file.

Yes!  I discovered that I can't open ANY chm files, even in MS Office files.   Probably been this way for a long time, I never needed to open any chm help files 'til now.

Win7 doesn't always come with a full-blown CHM Viewer - depending on the Install/Upgrade History of your specific Win7 PC.

Give these a read, and see if one of the 4 suggestions solves your issue:  http://stackoverflow.com/questions/11438634/opening-a-chm-file-produces-navigation-to-the-webpage-was-canceled

There was a link on the site you sent me to for downloading a program called "Sumatra PDF."  I downloaded it and can now open the BYEOS help files manually, which is all I need.  I will sort out the issue with the MS HTML executable on my computer later.   The problem is clearly with my computer, nothing to do with BYEOS.   Thanks!
