You should do testing at the kitchen table to familiarize yourself with BYE and make sure that you can connect it with your camera. That way you will have confidence that it works before doing dark sky imaging.

There are a number of things that you can test indoors...

  • Did BYE install correctly?
  • Is your camera compatible with BYE.
  • Can BYE actually connect to the camera
  • Are the in-camera settings correct for BYE.
  • Is your cabling correct? No bad cable or cable too long.
  • Do you understand how to use BYE?
  • Is Windows Security what BYE expects?
  • Is your Anti-virus software interfering with BYE's ability to download image files

The above are all topics that trip up new users anxious to take BYE to the field. They get out to their site, have out-of-the box problems, and end up wasting a perfectly good night.

If the indoor testing works, then you can purchase a permanent license before going into the field, knowing that BYE does work and how to use it.

Also be aware that the Trial license (not the Classic or Premium licenses) requires an internet connection when you start BYE in order to verify that your Trial license is still valid. I mention this in case you intend use your laptop for imaging somewhere where there is no Internet connection.

I hope this helps.
