Question

Hi, I've recently upgraded and can no longer connect to my 60D via Shoestring Astronomy's DSUSB. The hardware's diagnostic program DSUSBCheck shows the PC (Win 7) to DSUSB is connected ok - ie I can make the LED cycle from Red to Green to Off to Red again etc. I can also Open and Close the shutter.

Connected to the camera though, the LED remains Red, and BYE never connects :
21:22:23  Attempting to connect camera...
21:22:23  Camera Not Found!  Make sure it's connected to the PC and turned ON :)

I've tried various settings, such as M and Bulb mode, 100 & 200 ISO, Live View on and off, M / AF etc

I never get as far as an 'Imaging' button to configer DSUSB as a cable. I don't get a Test Cable option either.

Any ideas ?

Many thanks,

Andy

Andy,

The DSUSB cable is only needed for BULB exposures with some of the older (DIGIC II and DIGIC III) Canon EOS cameras. It is not necessary with your 60D.  See the camera support grid on the BYE product page for details.

You need to connect the camera to your PC with the USB cable that came with the camera.  Of course you can extend it with active extensions and hubs, as necessary to reach the  PC, but that is the only cable that you need.

You absolutely do not need a DSUSB cable with the 60D and BYE, for any versions.  The 60D can do BULB without a serial cable.

However, you can force BYN to use the serial cable even the camera models that no require it if you go in Settings -> Advance Settings, and check 'Force Serial Cable'.  Then it should work.

Even if you force BYE to use the DSUSB cable for BULB exposures, you still need to connect a regular USB cable to the camera for downloading and changing camera settings. At most, the DSUSB cable is only for BULB exposures and mirror lockup.

Yeah, Rick is on the right track... you still need your regular USB cable no matter what :)

I have a feeling you are only connecting your camera to the DSUSB cable from Shoestring Astronomy, that will never work.  The regular USB cable is mandatory as well.
