Cameras Supported By BackyardEOS BackyardNIKON - Anytime Sony?

aacc66

Question

This is probably a question that had been probably asked and answered previously and probably someone can point me to the right place. What are the Canon and Nikon cameras supported by BYE and BYN?

A second question: what are the chances backyard will be eventually supporting the Sony alpha cameras? I am thinking specifically of the Sony A7s which is the camera intended for low light.

Thanks.

Alvaro

Just go to the store and click any BYE edition to view the product... then go down and expand the "Camera Support Grid".

For BYN it's not there yet because it is not fully released... but there is a pinned thread in the BackyardNIKON forum with all tested models.

Sony is not planned :(

hmm. sounds like replying from an original kindle fire can lead to odd behaviors inside forums.

Anyway, the question of the Sony camera is related to the fact that i am researching to buy my DSO camera, and right now a Canon 6d is the leading contender.

But I want to research my options and i don't know enough about the nikon's except that their raw files are not as raw compared to the raw files from canon (not that the canon files are completely raw) and the imaging chips for the mirrorless nikon are rather small.

As you can tell, I consider mirrorless cameras ideal for DSO work (weight and less complex) but canon's cannot be thetered, nikon's imaging chip are too small and looks like sony's does not have a practical software for DSO even if the a7s hardware is more than ideal.

so right now, as I said before, the canon 6d is the leading contender.

thanks again.

I agree, I think mirrorless is the future. It'd be nice to buy one this year with the confidence that it will be supported in programs like this.

I've had my eye on the A7s since I became aware of it. The price seems right, for now.

Mirrorless Interchangeable Lens Cameras (MILC) - Canon for the EOS-M line has decided to NOT provide a functional SDK that includes Bulb Shutter Control - nor  do these MILCs have a Bulb Shutter Trigger Port.  No Long Exposure Shooting...

Sony DSLRs - No consistent SDK provided; Guylain has advised he has No Plans to support Sony DSLRs.  The Sony A7s is rather tantalizing for it's Low Noise capabilities (High ISO is NOT of that much interest for DSO Imaging), but the Canon 7DmkII has made real strides in the same Low Noise area (and IS supported by the Canon SDK - as soon as DCRAW provides an Update that can handle the 7DmkII's variant of .CR2 format).
