Rebel works but no download, abort stuck

Backyard EOS now freezes when using Canon RebelXs, a system that worked fine for the last year.  The abort button rotates and will not stop unless the program is stopped.  I tried all the methods suggested by another user in a prevous post, checking settings of camera and EOS, changing photo options(Raw...etc)but no success.  I even reinstalled to get the 3.2 version but this has not helped.  Thanks for any advice you can offer.  Stuart

Try disabling your anti-virus software as a test. If it works, then figure out how to whitelist BYE to allow the downloads.

If it worked for years and no longer works something has changed on your computer -or- the camera itself causing it to fail.  The XS is a 10'ish year old camera.

Does it fail always or does it work for a while then fail?

We traded cameras, computers and even reinstalled an older version of EOS in a vain attempt to figure out why my Canon Rebel images were not downloading, and the Abort button circled continuously....surely it must be a bug in the new release 3.2, or hardware problem.  But after two hours of failure, we finally decided to try the original suggestion: delete the Avast anti-virus software.  Too crazy to work, for sure.  But in spite of our doubts, it worked!   So lesson learned...listen to the Admin and check the simple solutions first!  Stuart
