A direct link with Nikon lens

SUNJiaLin

Question

I'm using a Nikon D90 with different lens with Auto-Focus type, and it is a pity to need to focus manually on stars when it could be controlled by some buttons or even (I'm dreaming) in an automatic loop based on research of lowest FWHM ?

Thanks for your consideration.

Okay, that's clear.

Another question about BYN :

- How to make working the weather center ?

I saw copy screen with some figures, and on mine I have nothing.

- Could indicate me which settings by example I could input ?

T&R,

Didier S-C

You need to configure your weather source in the Setting window.

BYN supports the TEMPerHUM usb device, Yahoo weather using a WOEID, and a text file if you have a weather station that can output the data in a text file.

The easiest way is the Yahoo WOEID if you have internet connection.

Hope this helps,

I will try WOEID, but in China there is some restrictions on internet and I don't know if it will work correctly.

In same time I'm doing a weather station with Arduino (just starting to learn it), could you give me format of data or a link which can describe it ?

Thanks again,

Didier S-C

TEMPerHUM

A TEMPerHUM device sells for about $20 on eBay; this is an awesome piece of hardware and is highly recommended.  BackyardEOS supports TEMPerHUM versions 1 and 2.

1.    Plug the TEMPerHUM device in a USB port.

You do not need to install the drivers that came with it.

2.    In BackyardEOS, open the Settings dialog and set the Weather Provider to ‘TEMPerHUM’ or ‘Auto detect’.

3.    Click the Save button to close the settings window.

Yahoo RSS feed

1.    Open your browser and go to http://weather.yahoo.com.

2.    Enter your location and hit enter.

3.    Look in the URL address bar; the numbers at the end is what yahoo calls a WOEID (Where On Earth ID).

4.    In BackyardEOS, open the Settings dialog and set the Weather Provider to ‘Yahoo’ and enter the WOEID in the Yahoo WOEID field.

5.    Click the Save button to close the settings window.

Here is an example (in this case the WOEID is 24002902)

http://weather.yahoo.com/canada/ontario/clarence-creek-24002902

Text File Delimited

1.    Open the Settings dialog and set the Weather Provider to ‘Text File Delimited’ or ‘Auto detect’.

2.    Click on ‘Text File Mapping”

3.    Select a text file containing the weather information.  BackyardEOS will read the last line only!  This allows for cumulative weather information in the same file over time.

4.    Enter the start position of each field and the number of characters to read from the start position.  The reading box will show the result instantly.

5.    There is no reading required for dew point.  This is because the dew point is calculated from the temperature and humidity level.

6.    Select the readout unit in the file; Fahrenheit or Celsius.

7.    Click the Save button to close the settings window.

Good news, Yahoo WOEID is working perfectly (Yahoo is not censored, it is not the case for Google ...).

I will try a bit later for Text file because I don't have internet in the field ; need to finish my Weather station with Arduino...

TEMPerHUM is a good alternative if my DIY don't reach the good level !

Thanks again for your geat support.

ONce BackyardNIKON and BackyardEOS v3.1 is released I'll be continuing my work on auto-focus... but it will be ASCOM based so it will not work with camera lens.  This is because controlling lens does not work for all lens and all camera body and the step size is not reliable <_>
