Need to move BYE to new pc, old license doesn't match new requirment

aschmeelk

Question

Hello!

I'm moving BYE to a new laptop and copied the license from the old one expecting to be able to enter it into the new BYE application install but the license formats are different with the new application. My old license ended in 'KFZIE' in the new licensed format there is one more group of 5 characters required. How do I go about using my old license key?

Mmm. Tried that, the new version won't accept my old key/username combo. Get error: "could not find any recognizable digits."

Then you are not entering it correctly.  The error "could not find any recognizable digits" is usually caused by an incorrect key typed.  Use cut&paste to prevent errors.

I should mention that I'm using v3.0.0 Classic. Originally purchased in 2013. Does this make a difference? It says the license never expires.

See Screen shot attached. Here's my license, COPIED from the Edit license window on my old laptop:

<<license key deleted>>

Now explain to me how I'm not entering the value properly. I've tried pasting just the the first 5 quintets and the entire thing. Get "not enough characters" doing the first, and the above error on the latter.

FIRST...PLEASE EDIT YOUR PREVIOUS POST TO REMOVE YOUR LICENSE KEY FROM THE MESSAGE. Publishing your key is a violation of your license and could cause your license to be revoked!!!

You did not tell the entire story. Not only are you copying BYE to a new computer, but you are also upgrading it. If you copy your old version of BYE to the new PC then your existing multi-line license should work on the new computer, but if you upgrade from BYE 3.0.x or earlier to a recent version, you need to trade your multi-line license for a new license. There is no cost for the upgrade, but you need to follow the upgrade instructions by clicking on the link at the bottom of this page.

Are you for real!  You posted your private software key on a public forum.  NEVER, EVER do this.  This key is no longer available for free upgrade as I can no longer trust that you are the only user.  People subscribe to the forum as RSS feeds and I can't undo this, your key is now shared with the world.

You have a 3.0.0 key so you must use it with version 3.0.x of the software.  Normally your key would have been eligible for a free upgrade to 3.1.x but since upgrade privileges have been revoked on that key you now need to purchase again if you want a 3.1.x key.  I have a zero tolerance on this.

Regards,

Well ain't you a peach? I didn't want to post it BUT you weren't getting what I was telling you in my original question.

REALLY??? RE-READ MY ORIGINAL POST!!!:::

"I'm moving BYE to a new laptop and copied the license from the old one expecting to be able to enter it into the new BYE application install but the license formats are different with the new application. On top of getting an RTFM answer, you had to be rude about it too. What is this a Linux forum??? It might have occurred to you, your lordship, that I HAD read the F'n manual and THAT'S why I was posting here??? Now you tell me I have to PURCHASE a NEW license??? I would have never posted my key in the first place if you weren't being so DENSE and not READING MY QUESTION!!!  I will be lodging a complaint with this company concerning this, for all the good it will probably do me. But in the meantime, maybe you should work on those CUSTOMER RELATION skills!!!

Posting your private license key on a public forum is a violation of the end user license agreement.  Full stop. You should also take note that only posts from user "ADMIN" are official posts from O'Telescope.  Any other posts are from users not affiliated with O'Telescope.

I'm sorry it came to this but I have a zero tolerance for this, regardless of the circumstances.  You can launch all the complaints you want as this is your right.  I stand by my actions.  Free upgrades is not a right; it's a privilege.  You bought a software in 2013 and you are free to continue to use that software... but upgrade privileges have been revoked.

Got it. Thanks for all your help. Please delete my account completely. I have no desire to be associated with your company/software/products.I will be removing BYE from my systems as well.

I may be too late, but I apologize if my comments and questions in any way caused the frustration that you vented in the reply that you posted. I did read your post and I felt that it did not completely describe your issue. Nowhere in your post did you indicate that you were attempting apply your version 3.0 license to version 3.1 of BYE. This is a topic that has been discussed numerous times in this forum. The correct steps for how to use your existing license to get a new, no cost  license are also available on the Upgrade area of this web site. Still, it seems that a few are not able to find the instructions. From what I read, you were attempting to copy your existing version of BYE onto a new PC and could not get the license to validate. This should have been easily achievable. I then realized that it was possible that you were attempting to apply a very old license to a new version of BYE as part of an upgrade. My comments described how you should proceed if that was your situation.

Those of us in the BYE and BYN community who try to help new users on this forum are not professionals in customer service. We are simply users, like yourself, who volunteer our time and expertise to try to help new users to overcome the learning curve with using the application. I am sorry my reply to your question provoked such an angry reply. That was not my goal.
