Problems with DSUSB and NIkon d700

lnewton

Question

Hello, Just received my DSUSB cables from Shoestring Astro and connected them. When starting BYNikon, the camera is not found and the mosquito buzz message appears. Restarts, etc. are ineffective. Any ideas as to what is going on? I have selected the pre-2015 driver button and the D700 model in the selection screen.

Rick, the D700 does not do Bulb, in my experience with the camera, with the regular mini USB connection. It will with the DS connection.

The D700 has been around for a while. I am surprised that you are the first user to report that the shutter control cable is necessary.

If you have tried to use BYN to shoot BULB images with the regular USB cable only and it does not work, then I guess that the 2nd shutter control cable (DSUSB) is needed. If so, then Guylain needs to correct the Supported Cameras entry for the D700.

Please try and let us know.

It definitely takes both cables to do bulb exposures on the Nikon D700. I have ShutterBoss and it works with its DS cable in bulb along with the iOS software controller.  I did a brief indoor test to confirm both cables are necessary. Will take it out tomorrow night for a field test. BTW, the D700 is vintage 2008 model but remains rock solid after over 150K cycles.

Thanks, Louis

When you do this test, make sure to use "Camera USB" in BYN cable selection :)

As I recall. when I had both cables attached and Camera USB selected from the default, it would not recognize the camera. When I changed to DSUSB, all was well. Of course, with only the camera usb cable attached, everything worked except bulb. Without the camera usb attached, nothing worked when the DSUSB was attached; so, it seems the Nikon D700 needs both cables to do bulb shot pictures. Hope I have got all this right.
