where is licence key for trial edition?

I have downloaded bye trial edition on November 15.

Where do I find a licence key so I can install it?

Did you add a trial in your cart and proceeded to checkout?  I don't see any evidence of this using your account dannyboy.

No. I made an attempt to download the trial when the system stated that I would need to register an account so that I could access the activation code from a specified (forgot) area within the site. By the time I had done this the download was in progress. When I ran the file (setup bye .......exe) it asked for the activation code which I could not find.

Add BackyardEOS trial in your cart and proceed to checkout.  The will have the activation server generate a key for you.

Log in to the site. Click on your username in the upper right corner of the page and then click on My Purchases from the cascading menu.
