BYE fails to recognise my 1100D on the desktop PC but not on a small laptop

BYE fails to recognise my camera on the desktop PC but not on a small laptop

Laptop is Win 7. PC is Win 10. Both have BYE v 3.1.16.

In Device manager I have an entry in 'Universal serial bus controllers'  which says 'Unknown USB device (device descripter request Failed)

The laptop connects ok with the same wireing.

Which model of camera?

In the future please make the topic of your post relevant to the issue rather than your username. For example, "Connection issue with T5i". That makes it easier for other users to categorize your issue.

The camera is a Canon 1100D and neither PC or laptop have the canon software installed

Well, first thing would be to install the Canon's EOS Utility software and make it connect with this first.  This will also install any missing Canon drivers.  Then, move on to BackyardEOS and see if it connects.

Hi

I think some computers effectively have a hub inside them.  If yours does, this may may be why you are having a problem.  Have you tried the different USB ports?

I would expect the ones at the back of the computer to be OK, but, possibly an issue at the front.

I had a laptop that had exactly this issue.
