TheSKyX CAO

Question

On my setup for BYN I use an SBIG ST-i (mono) guider controlled by TheSkyX.

I only recently noticed that in TheSkyX there is an option to connected to BYN.

What does that get me?

Can I 'plate solve' and frame then, using TheSkyX Image Link?

Can I focus using @Focus2 and/or FocusMax v4?

Sorry that I wasn't clear (sometimes this stuff hurts my head :) ). I will continue to use the ST-i for auto guiding. And TheSkyX CAO will be able to control my Nikon for imaging.

I was just wondering the benefit to me of having TSX control my Nikon. How would it be better than just having BYN capture my images?

It's not better or worst, it is an alternative.

TheSkyX wanted a way to control DSLR cameras and found that the best way to offer DSLR support in their software was to leverage the existing tools out there, so they implemented the BYE/BYN API to control DSLR cameras instead of programming their own, which would have been most costly for them.

I think that the advantage of using TSX to control BYN is that you can then use the facilities in TSX like plate-solving and maybe (I am not sure) integration with FocusMax for auto focusing.

Let us know how that works for you.

Yes! That is what I was 'getting at.' I use FocusMax for my CCD imaging and I was hoping that the integration of BYN and TSX would allow 'plate solves' and focusing (either with FocusMax or @Focus2).

My D610 is in en route to LifePixel for Ha conversion and AA filter removal so I won't be able to test BYN and TSX for a while. I'll let you know after I get the camera back (plus the 2-week cloud out penalty for new gear).
