Question

Just getting back into things and have a new computer and lost the version that I have. I do have the email that I got from buying BYE with the key. I tried the key that I have with the latest version and oldest version of 3.1 and the key doesn't work. The link on the email goes to a page that is no longer there as well. The key I have is a big block of text that you copy and paste and it looks like that has changed compared to how the key looks in the validate window. What should I do?

Thanks

Samantha

Samantha,

The license scheme was changed with the release of BYE 3.1, and you need a new 3.1 license key.

Download and install BYE 3.1.8, Log in on this web site; go to the Upgrade BYE page and follow the instructions for how to get a new BYE 3.1.x license using part of your BYE 3.0 license as a coupon code. There is no cost. Once you complete the free purchase your new license key will be available on this web site in the "My Purchases" area. Then you just have to install the new license code and your Identifier (login ID) and you are up and running.

The instructions Rick is mentioning are available on the upgrade page.  Click the Upgrade menu option from the top menu bar.  Basically you add BYE in your cart and you use your old key (first line only) as a store coupon on the checkout page and your new free upgrade key will be issued instantly.

Regards

I am also having a similar issue... When trying to add the software to a new laptop in the steps above I am given the error - #ot0998: 'checkout' error Checkout cancelled, you already own BackyardEOS 3.1 Trial Edition. If I download the current version and enter my old key it gets the error - License validation error! Application version not valid. Please download the latest version of BackyardEOS.  I am now confused... any help would be appreciated.

OK,

Checkout error? You do not need to "purchase" another trial copy of BYE. Log in with the SAME account as you used on the other PC and download it again from the Download page. Then go to My Purchases on this web site to get your license. If the 30 day trial has expired, then you can either purchase a permanent license or ask Guylain for an extension to the trial license. Given the sporadic nature of amateur astronomy he has been very understanding of people who request and extension of their trial license. I would suggest that you not ask for the extension until you are sure that you will be having a good night. Beware that due to license cheaters, the Trial license requires an Internet connection to validate the current date. This is not true for the permanent license..

Well there you go.  You are adding the trial edition in your cart.  This is the error.

Add either the classic or premium and it should work.

Hi

Thanks for the advice. I will try once again when I am ready.

What are you trying to do?

1) validate a newly purchase key.

2) upgrade form a previous version?

In the future it would be more appropriate to start a new thread with your exact issue.  It would make it simpler to troubleshoot.

@guyroch Apologies I found the site support quite confusing and this looked like the most appropriate thread to put my issue on.

My previous laptop no longer works and I was just trying to fire up the software to get a feel for it. I only used the software for a few minutes previously so I am not very familiar with it.

I believe my query has been answered in that quite simply my trial ran out :/

Thanks
