Images not copying to downloads folder

Question

Hi there -

I'm a new user, just getting started with astro-imaging and BYE.  I'm therefore pretty sure the problem below is user error, but can't seem to work out what that error is!

I finish an imaging run successfully (or at least that's what the log tells me) but no image files show up in the downloads folder nominated in Settings.  Nor do they appear in the image pane in BYE itself, or as thumbnails in the bar below.  They do appear in the BackyardTemp folder, as numbered .CR2 files (I'm using a Canon T5i).  On the other hand, an image taken using Preview copies to the Downloads folder and appears the Image pane.  I'm using the default destination for downloads (user/pictures/BackyardEOS).  Running BYE version 3.1.6 in Windows 10, in a user profile with Administrator rights.

For what it's worth, BYE also crashes from time to time - delivering a Windows error message that "a problem caused BackyardEOS to stop working".  Not clear what is causing that to happen.

Any ideas?  Not sure where to go from here...

Thanks!

Well, first you should apply BYE 3.1.8. It is free and there is little sense in troubleshooting an issue that may be fixed in the latest release.

One of the differences between 3.1.6 and 3.1.8 is the implementation of the worker thread that processes images, so it may indeed impact your issue.

Based on my user experience with BYE, the Canon SDK that BYE uses is very sensitive to the connection with the camera. This can cause the symptoms that you are seeing with the "BYE stopped working" message. Make sure that your cable is not flaky, is not too long (no more than 15 ft without a hub or active extension), and is fully inserted at both ends.

If you still see the issue with the images not being displayed, I would suggest troubleshooting the issue by checking the Skip READ Exif Data and Skip Write Exif Data Advanced Settings to see if it changes your symptoms. I would make sure that they are unchecked when you are finished troubleshooting as leaving them checked bypasses some functionality that you may want...Like adding BYE parameters to the EXIF data and reading the sensor temperature from the EXIF data.

It may take an expert review of your BYE log files to find the ultimate cause.
