BackyardEOS doesn't start correctly

Strix

Question

When trying to start software nothing happens. Checking activity monitor (win10) show that BinaryRivers.BackyardEOS.start is running but uses 29 Mb of memory but no CPU resources. The BYEOS window isn't there. Tried to reinstall and then it works. Until I close program and try to restart. Back on square one again and it won't start properly. I shouldn't have to re-install every time. What the hell is wrong?

Hi

Sorry for being so late with feedback, but had some other issues with viruses too that caused error messages when downloading images (on a separate thread that I fail to find now). Anyway, to sum it up, I used 2 different virus softwares to handle and check that I was completely (or to best of knowledge) free of worms and trojans. After that I followed your suggestion to uninstall and then reinstall in a different directory. Works as a charm. Starts within 30 sec and no problems with error messages when doing image download. Thanks for your valuable inputs and help!

If you see the process "BinaryRivers.BackyardEOS.start" then is is running... but my best guess is that it is either minimized as Rick said... or it is running off the screen.  Did you by any chance plugged in a second monitor the last it worked and the BYE window/app was on that second monitor when you closed it?  And now that you are back to one monitor it still runs in those last known screen coordinate, which are now off the screen?

Keep us posted,

Thanks Rick and guyroch for being kind coming with suggestions. I have checked that it is not minimized and I don't have a second monitor. Another thing is that I frequently is getting asked to verify my username. Not my license number, but my username that is connected to the license. I get the impression that some check that is done at start-up is preventing the program from doing a take-off. Could it be that it's being halted for this stange username/license thing and it's halted in a kind of inaccessible state? I will try to uninstall completely and re-install in another folder.

If you are running the trial version of BYE/BYN, the software validates your trial license via the Internet each time you start up the program. This is a change that the authors were forced to make due to people trying to cheat the license by changing the system time on their computers. Still others have tried to get the software without paying for it by creating new accounts and downloading a new version. Doing these things is greatly frowned on by the people who have spent thousands of hours creating, enhancing, and supporting these products.

Just make sure that you correctly enter your username (it must be cased and spelled correctly) and BYE should validate the license and start up.

Hi is running a purchase key.

Delete the file located in "c:/users/<<username>>/appdata/BackyardEOSv31-license.txt" and try again.

This will delete any trace (and signature) of your license key on your computer.  You will need to re-enter your key and identifier after deleting this file so make sure you have them close by.

I suspect a hash code validation in that file may be cause the issue.  Deleting this file and starting from fresh may fix it.

Keep us posted please.
