Help purchasing a windows tablet or laptop to run Backyard EOS (Canon)

filya

Question

Hi,

I don't have a portable windows device (only a desktop). I am planning on purchasing a tablet or a laptop to use with my Canon T3i. What are the system requirements that I need to be aware of? Also, what about the hardware? Other than a USB port, does the laptop/tablet need to have anything else?

if someone can shed light on any software/hardware requirements that I need to be aware of, that would be much appreciated. Don't want to end up buying a tablet/laptop and realize it won't help me.

Thanks!

System requirements for BackyardEOS are minimal.  It will run on basically any PC 10'ish years old or newer.

It will not run on WinRT tablets, you need the full Windows operating system.

IF you download and install the application I think the system requirement are on page 6.  I don't have the manually right now so I can not paste it here :(

Regards.

Thanks for the reply.

So a cheap windows tablet probably won't work? Online, I read discussions on number and types of USB ports. Can someone confirm those?

I can't find a manual because supposedly it only comes when you install the software :(

The same question has been asked before. Here is a link to a recent thread --> https://www.otelescope.com/index.php?/topic/1758-windows-laptop-specs/#entry11584

The following advice is from the BYE user manual and is only what BYE requires. You will also need to consider the requirements for other equipment control and processing applications that will be on the laptop.

BackyardEOS is built using the Microsoft .Net Framework and runs only on Windows operating systems.

The Mandatories:
· Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10 or higher
· Microsoft .Net 4.0 (the installer will detect if it is not installed on your computer)

The Minimum:
· All items in 'The mandatories'
· Screen resolution of 1024 x 600
· Single CPU
· 1GB memory

The Recommended:
· All items in 'The mandatories'
· Screen resolution of 1024 x 768 or higher
· Dual CPU or more
· 2GB memory or more

Exceptions...
BackyardEOS will run on both Windows 32 bits and 64 bits alike... but there are a few exceptions...
If you have an older camera such as the Canon 5D, 20D, 20Da, 30D, or 350D, it will only work on Windows 32 bits. This is because Canon does not have any 64 bits drivers for there older models.
